激しい雨の後、ふと事務所の窓から外を見るとキレイな虹が
完全に半円のキレイな虹でした
あんなキレイな虹を見たのは初めてです。
なんか良いこと有るかな
っと思うのは私だけでしょうか。
ところで「虹の色は？」と聞かれたら、皆さんは何と答えますか？
日本では広く7色と認識されており、色は赤・橙・黃・緑・青・藍・紫の順番で並んでいるとされています。
これは、万有引力の法則で有名なニュートンが発表した考え方です。
しかし、様々な国の虹を調べてみると、共通して7色というわけではないようです。
多い国では8色もあり、一番少ない国だと2色となっています。ちなみに、インドネシア(フローレス島)は、赤地に黄・緑・青の縞があるように見えているようです。
国ごとに色の数が大きく異なるのは、実際に見えている虹の色が違うからではありません。
例えば、虹を2色としているバイガ族は、明るい色(赤や黃など暖色系)を赤、暗い色(青や紫など寒色系)を黒とザックリ分けているようです。同じ色を見ていても、その色を表現する言葉があるのか、ないのかで虹の色数も変わってくるということです。
色の数は見方次第
「虹は何色か」と質問された時に、世界で解答の仕方が変わってくるという話もあります。
日本やアメリカ、フランスなどは「◯色」とはっきり答えます。しかし、ロシアなどでは「色々」「しいて言うなら◯色じゃないかな」など虹の色が何色なのか固定しません。
つまり、“何色あるか”というよりは、“何色と見ようとするのか”ということが大きな違いにつながっているようです。
次回虹を見つけた時は、7色という概念をいったん忘れ、何色に見えるのか試してみるのも楽しいかもしれませんね。
